Camp USA RV Road Trip: Tennessee

Summer vacation may seem like a distant thought since 2016 has just started, but when it comes to vacation it is never to early to plan. Although Florida offers incredible landscapes, Speedways, Disney World and family friendly areas to camp with your RV, Tennessee is the summer road trip we had in mind.

Tennessee is a great vacation spot due to the wide range of actives and areas. Whether you want to get your country line dancing on in downtown Nashville or escape to the scenic Smokey Mountains, Tennessee offers it all.

Nashville

Downtown Nashville is the place to go for a great time and incredible music. Since it is known as Music City it comes as no surprise that it is home to sights like the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Johnny Cash Museum, but that isn’t all that Nashville has to offer.

Grand Ole Opry. Originally a radio show in the 1920’s Grand Ole Opry is the sole reason Nashville is the center for country music stars. The venue has housed thousands of performers since its’ debut and is where legends have taken the stage and made country music history. How can you be a part of the history on your summer vacation? See a show or take a tour of the historic venue with family and see where some of countries biggest names prepare for their sets in the iconic Grand Ole Opry.

Tootsies. Once you hit the main street in downtown Nashville there are plenty of shops to stop in, cowboy boots to buy and live music from singer songwriters looking to make a splash. Where are the best spots to go? Tootsies is one of the most famous bars in the country, known as the original honky tonk. So many names in country have graced their small stage before their fame including artists like Willie Nelson and Patsy Cline and today Tootsies is as popular as ever. Tootsies is open 10AM-3AM so be sure to stop by and you might luck out and catch a set by a few country music stars in the area!

Percy Warner Park. Now if you want a little respite from the Nashville crowds, consider taking your RV 20-30 minutes outside of downtown to Warner Parks. The beautiful scenery sits on nearly 3000 acres of forest. You can hike, drive or bike through the 11 mile winding path and enjoy the incredible overlooks and wildlife Nashville has to offer.

Known for its incredible scenery and as a summer vacation spot in Tennessee, we wanted to bring your attention to Gatlinburg which borders the Great Smoky Mountains. Surrounded by beautiful mountain ridges Gatlinburg is a serene location that offers plenty to do for an active family.

Great Smokey Mountains National Park. One of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, this national part offers a diverse look into animal and plant life of the area and the remnants of the southern appellation mountain and its’ history. Along with the hiking and biking available, take your family to witness natural waterfalls, ranger led programs or even book an action packed rafting trip for the adventurers in your RV.

Wild Bear Falls Indoor Waterpark. Now this a great family excursion for your summer vacation. Wild Bear Falls is a mountain themed indoor water park equipped with great water slides for all ages, a water-themed tree house and everyone’s favorite lazy river. The semi-supervised park allows parents to relax by the pools with the kids close by. With more than 60,000 square feet of heated water, Wild Bear is a great option for your family year round, but in summertime it will be a nice retreat to enjoy on those hot days.

Gatlinburg Space Needle. Gatlinburg, Tennessee is home to an incredible glass elevator that travels 400 feet upwards toward the sky. Once you’ve stopped at the top you can step out and view the Great Smoky Mountains without obstructions. The panoramic view will allow you to take in Mount LeConte, the tallest mountain in the Eastern US. Along with the breath taking sights the Gatlinburg Space Needle now offers info on the cities own history and of course the Smoky mountains. Bringing a camera is a must as this will be a picture perfect opportunity to get your summer vacation photo!

Camp USA Roadtrip: Sebring International Speedway, Sebring FL

As the oldest track in the US, Sebring International Speedway is a piece of race history. 1952 marked the first 12 Hour Race, which the speedway is most known for. So many fans have walked through the gates of Sebring to be a part of the experience and walk among the track which screen legends like Steven McQueen have raced.

March 16th will mark the 64th Annual 12 Hour Race and will without a doubt be one of the highlights of the race year, but that isn’t all that the Sebring International Speedway has to offer.

Hall of Fame & Gallery of Legends

In 2002 during the 50th year of the 12 Hours of Sebring, The Hall of Fame was launched and each year since inductees enter the hall of fame alongside former members like Carroll Shelby, Mario Andretti and Rodger Penske, just to name a few. A few years after the Hall of Fame was formed the Gallery of Legends found its’s place at Sebring. There you can walk among legends and view cars from past 12 Hour Races. It is a chance for super fans to get up close and personal with the real vehicles that have made history.

Trail of History

Sebring International Speedway is located on what used to be Hendricks Field, a WWII airbase training center. Throughout the track you can see pieces of our history including original flagpoles, runways and the Hendricks control tower. One of the greatest things about this historical track is that various areas are unchanged and have the same concrete and straights used on the runways in the 1940’s and the first 12 Hour Sebring Race in 1952.

Paddock Area

As race enthusiasts we are always looking for ways to be a part of the action or at least as close to it as possible, and Sebring is the place to be for that fan experience. Your Sebring ticket allows full access to the Paddock areas where the teams are getting prepped and ready for the 12 hour event. There you can take photos, ask questions and get a closer look at the inner workings and preparation needed to endure a race of this magnitude, all for the price of a general admission ticket.

RV Camping at Sebring International Speedway

Like most race fans camping your RV rental is the best way to enjoy the festivities and stay close to the action while enjoying the perks standard camping doesn’t offer. Trackside spaces are available around the race circuit, however keep in mind that they do sell-out, so the earlier you purchase them the better. If reserved parking is no longer available there is non-reserved motorhome parking at a first-come first-serve basis.

A few things to keep in mind about RV camping at Sebring is that there are no hookups for motorhomes, but showers are available for use and charcoal or gas grills are both fine to bring along for the ultimate tailgating experience. So, whether you are relaxing outside your RV before the 12 Hour Sebring Race or checking out the various car clubs gathered around the speedway, there is plenty to do, plenty to see and history to take part in.

Camp USA has RV rentals for any budget and family size, so get in touch and let us know how we can help make your Sebring experience one for the books!

Even though there will be no racing happening during this time, there is the opportunity to see some of Country’s top music acts including Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Lady Antebellum, Willie Nelson and 40+ more. 3 Things to Keep in Mind When Traveling by RV to Homestead-Miami Speedway

#1 Electrical: Although a benefit of traveling by RV is that you have the option to utilize electricity, it is also something to be mindful of. One way to stay ahead of this is by writing down wattage ahead of time for each electronic appliance. This will ensure you are aware of which items can or cannot run at the same time, which will save you from tripping your power or causing a dangerous situation.

#2 Weight: Not only will a heavy RV slow you down and burn through gas, it could cause you to be over the limit when it comes to weigh stations. Be proactive when packing and keep in mind the weight of particular recreational or BBQ items. This could save you a lot of trouble and time down the road.

#3 Food: This is probably the most important aspect of your RV road trip. The key to a great RV vacation is being organized when it comes to your food, so plan out each meal so that you can make breakfast, lunch and dinner without having to run to the store or add to the limited kitchen space your RV has.

Homestead-Miami Speedway provides so many memorable events for adults and families. Plan your next visit and let Camp USA help you book the best RV for your individual or family needs.
